Childhood immunizations are an easy, proven, and cost effective way to help children stay healthy and avoid the potentially harmful effects of childhood diseases such as polio, tetanus, and diphtheria.

PHP is continually evaluating interventions for implementation and partnerships with local, state, and national coalitions to address this clinical priority. Examples of interventions follow.

• PHP is an active supporter and participant in the implementation of the Michigan Childhood Immunization Registry (MCIR) initiative, including participation in local area task forces charged with advising efforts to provide physicians web based access to the MCIR data.
• PHP provides immunization reminders for two-year old PHP members. Targeted members for this project include those who have been enrolled in PHP for at least twelve months or since birth who PHP claims data suggest are not up to date.
• PHP distributes an immunization schedule to mothers with newborns as part of the Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby program.
• PHP intends to continue providing immunization and related benefit information in member materials, such as the member handbook, new member orientation materials, and member newsletters.
• PHP has established partnerships with community projects aimed at improving community awareness.
